300 Words Challenge - Writing

This week for period three, we had to write a story about something that happened. I decided to write about the Kids for Kids concert that I participated on. Here is my Writing:
Big Aroha Concert

At the 5th of November, me and my friends went to a concert called “Kids for Kids Big Aroha Concert.” The whole choir group prepared and practiced for this most awaited concert. The choir practiced every Wednesday and memorised as much songs as we can.

When there was only a week left before the concert, we had two practices. It was on Wednesday as normal and on Friday. Me  and my friends were really looking forward on going to the concert because we could just sing our hearts out and not mind what other people think.

The time has finally come but before we go to the concert, we had a big rehearsal with the other schools that were going to perform with us. There was a lot of body movements and dances to do while we were singing. It looked really satisfying because everyone was doing the movements at the same time.

When it was the last song, me and my friends was feeling sad because it was really fun even know it was not the real concert. We then went back to school and do the things that we usually do every Tuesday.

In the evening, my mum dropped me off near my friend’s place and saw them walking to school. I got off the car and joined my friends. When we arrived at the meeting place, almost everyone was there except for us. We ate some fish and chips then played some board games. We then have to go to Horncastle Arena and go to our seats.
We then sat on the bus and go on our phones then me and my friends started talking about the concert and how much happier we would be during the concert. We sat on the grass for a while and wait for the others to arrive. After sitting for about 30 minutes or so, we finally went in the Arena and sat in our seats. There was a lot of audience watching us but I’m pretty sure that they wouldn’t be able to see our face clearly.

The concert finally started and I started to feel really hyped up. In the middle of the concert, people got their phones out and turned they’re flashlights on. It looked really beautiful because it was the first time I saw something like that ever in my life.

At the last song, I really sang my heart out and didn’t really cared about what other people around me would say. My friends and I even cried a little bit because of the joy that we felt. It was really unbelievable and I still remember the things that happened.

Sadly, the show was over. We felt a bit tired but still happy because we had the chance to be a part of something like that. We then went back to school and got picked up.

Tane Mahuta - Gardening

This week for Tane Mahuta, we have made a lot of progress. The first time we went there, there was lots of tyres everywhere. Now, it looks like a mini farm (sort of). We have planted lots of Vegetables and Fruits. We also planted some plants. Anyways, we did some Weeding and loosen up some dirt so that we can plant even more Vegetables and Fruits. The things that we planted today were Carrots, Watermelon and Corn. It was a really busy hour and we really had to work hard. Anyways, that's all for today.

Tane Mahuta

Tane Mahuta

For this blog, I'm going to be talking about the things that we did in Tane Mahuta this week.

As usual, my class go to Kiwi Kaha first before we go to the Garden to do some Gardening. I came to school a bit late because of the concert that me and some of my friends performed on. After the Kiwi Kaha, we walked to the back Garden. I didn't got change because I didn't bring my uniform.  Anyways, we just helped them pull the weeds of then it;s Morning Tea.

After Morning Tea, we just continued pulling out weeds and digging long holes for the plants. The garden is looking good do far and I'm so excited to see the outcome. That's it for this week. Thank You!

Fossil Fuels

Fossil Fuels

Aim: To learn about the impact of Fossil Fuels on our environment.

What Fossil Fuels are mined?
- Oil
- Coal
- Natural Gas

What type of Habitat is it?
The Ocean.

What Plants or Animals live in it?
Seaweed, Fish, Corals, Whales, Shark, Jellyfish and many more.

What do Humans use your Habitat for?
Diving, Swimming, Fishing, Sailing, Surfing and many more.

( 1. COOKIE ) ( 2. OCEAN ) After Mining:

Has your Habitat change?
1. The Cookie is broken into pieces and really messy.
2. The animals and everything that lives there died or disappeared.

How can we avoid this in the future?
1. For the Cookie,I'll do it carefully and not rush next time.
2. Make sure it's protected.

What lives there now?
Nothing.

Materials:
- Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Toothpick
- Plate

Step:
1. Draw a picture of the Cookie.
2. Draw a picture of the Habitat.
3. Start mining your Cookie with the Toothpick.
4. Count the Chocolate chips that you got out from the Cookie.
5. Throw the Cookie away or eat it.
6. Draw the look of your Cookie after the mining.
7. Record your points.

Conclusion:
I learnt that when your mining, it's going to affect the surrounding of it and the animals that are living near it.

Extreme Weather - Wind Power

Measuring weather.

Definitions:

  1. Typhoon: A tropical storm in the region of the Indian or the Western Pacific Ocean.
  2. Monsoon: A seasonal wind in the region of the South and South East Asia.
  3. Anemometer: An instrument/tool for measuring the speed of the wind, or of any current of gas.
  4. Beaufort wind scale: The Beaufort scale is an empirical measure that relates wind speed to observed conditions at sea or on land. Its full name is the Beaufort wind force scale.
  5. What is it when a weather is really nice and turns to hail?  Climate Variability.

Anemometer

MATERIALS

1. 2 sticks
2. Tape
3. Pencil
4. 4 cups
5. pin
6. Sticky notes

STEPS

  1.   Collect Materials.
  2.   Tape the 2 sticks together to form a cross.
  3.   Tape the sticks onto the Cups.
  4.   Get the Pin and stick it through the sticks and through the rubber of the Pencil.

Groups size: 5
Roles:
  • Timekeeper
  • Counter
  • Recorder
  • Anemometer Manager
  • Wind Manager
  1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
  2. When the time keeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
  3. Repeat the above step four (4) times and record the number of spins on the chart.

FINDINGS

  • Record how many times it spins and record it in the table below.
  • You will need to time them and count the number of spins.

Place name on school grounds                                    Number of Spins in 15 seconds
1.Field20
2.Old J block 15
3.Grass hill10
4.Tennis court gate 3

CONCLUSION:

On the field, the Anemometer would spin 80 times per minute. The wind scale reaches about 13-20 kilometres per hour and the Beaufort force reaches to 3.

At the Old J block, the Anemometer would spin 60 times per minute. The wind scale reaches about 51 -60 kilometres per hour and the Beaufort force reaches 7.

On the Grass hill, the Anemometer would spin 40 times per minute. The wind scale reaches about 40 - 50 kilometres per hour and the Beaufort force reaches 6.

At the Tennis Courts, the Anemometer would spin 48 times per minute. The wind scale would reach 6 - 12 kilometres per hour and the Beaufort force would reach 2.

Decomposition

Aim: To learn about the rate that different materials decompose.

Hypothesis:
I think that the Banana and Bread will get rotten first before the other ones because they are food and the other materials are a bit more solid. The Bread will have Water with it so it will turn soggy and not as solid as before.
Materials:

  1.   1 x small slice of Bread + Water
  2.   1 x strip of Paper
  3.   2 slices of Banana
  4.   1 strip of Styrofoam
  5.   4 x Test Tubes
  6.   1 x Test Tube Rack
Steps:
  1.  Get your Test Tube Rack then put the Test Tubes inside.
  2.  Put two slices of Bananas inside one of the Test Tube.
  3.  Put the slice of Bread inside the other Test Tube and so on.
  4.  Put Water with the Bread.

Holiday Highlights

Hi guys, so today I'm going to be talking about a highlight of my Holiday that I really liked.

Last Saturday, me and my Parents went to a birthday party. We were one of the first people that arrived at the location. I was pretty anxious at first, thinking that I'm going to be alone by my self but some of my closest friends also attended the birthday party. Some people were taking too long to arrive to the party so me and my friends found some ways to keep ourselves entertained. We found a hang out space where we could talk. It was just at the side of the house. We talked about the things that we really enjoyed doing the past few days and a lot of other things. After a really long time, all the people that was invited finally arrived. Then it's eating time.

We lined up one by one to get the foods that we want to eat. The foods were on a long table, a lined perfectly. There was a lot of delicious foods such as Spaghetti, Fried Chicken, and the most loved, Pork Lechon. I only ate two types of food which are Spaghetti and Fried Chicken. Me and my friends continued talking about random things outside while eating.

Once we finished eating, we were keep on going in and out of the house, getting random stuff. It was hard for me because I was wearing shoes and I couldn't be bothered taking it off. We finally decided t go out side and play Freeze tag. We didn't play it for a long time because it's so exhausting. We settled in my friend's bed room. We talked about random stuff again. It was really boring for me as well as for my friends. I asked my other friend if we could watch a horror movie and she agreed. We watched the movie called "The Conjuring".

Not done yet!

Orana Park - Climate Change

Today, I'm going to be talking about the Orana Park Trip that we had earlier this week. I'm also going to be giving some facts and how Climate Change affect them. I really enjoyed how the Lion Growled at me. It's a bit Scary but fun at the same time. The other thing that I also like was the Gorilla. I placed my hands against  the window and it placed it's hands against the Window near mine.

The Climate Change affects the way they live and their habitats. We get affected as well so we need to do our part.

Here are some facts that I got:

Meerkats - always have one out of all of them to look around and see if there's something that they need to be aware of

Giraffes - they have Purple tongue's to prevent them from having sunburn

White Rhinoceros - People believe that their horns can help us cure a type of sickness but there are no scientific ways to prove it. Their horns are the same as our nails.

That's all! Thank you!

New Kahui's

This week, we moved to the new Kahui. Other people from the whole school moved to a building as well. My class moved with another class, while the other six classes separated into three and moved to the other two buildings. The building that we moved into is called Tieke. The other buildings are called Mohua and Riroriro and are inspired by our local Native Birds.

When I walked into our new buildings, I saw lots of colours that represents the names of the buildings. It's a really big space for us to learn and it feels really comfortable. I like the way my classroom looks like but I was shocked to find out that we don't get the whole classroom by our self. We have to share almost half of the classroom with another class, either the juniors or the seniors. By the back side of the classroom, there's another classroom but we don't really have to worry about them because they have a sliding door that they could open or close whenever they want. We also have a rule. The rule is that you always need to get out of your classroom if you need to do something. For example, if you need to go to the toilet, you need to get out of your class then go to the toilet.

The first thing that caught my eyes were the light behind the TV. It changes its colour almost every minute. The other thing that also caught my eye was the massive orange wall near  the back of the classroom that I find really cool. The other things that I find cool are the Tall Ceiling, the Furniture's and teacher's working area which is upstairs but we are not allowed to got to.

2040 Documentary

Today in Science, we didn't get the chance to do an experiment because of the move to the new buildings. We had to join two other classes the are doing Drama. 2 classes plus another 2 classes equals 4 classes which is hard to handle. Anyways, we had to sit on the inside the Auditorium and watch a Documentary  called 2040. It was really interesting seeing the Future if we use the things that we already have to make our Environment a better place.

What Surprised me ?
It really surprised me when I saw what our Environment would look like in the Future. Finding out things that I never knew before.

What Excite me the most?
Having less of the bad things like Methane and other bad greenhouse gas that ruins our planet.

What Worried me the most?
The only thing that really worried me the most is that what our planet could look like if we still don't do the right things that could possibly change our planet and make it better.

Art Hurumanu

This week for Art, we were focusing on making our characters from clay. My team mates are focusing the other characters such as the Father, the main character, and lots of other ones and I'm focusing on the Mother. The teacher told us that we are going to be making the background next week and we are still thinking of what it's going to look like. The thing that I'm sort of finding challenging is the way my group works as a team. That's all for this blog. Bye!!

Here is what our characters look like:

CIP - Gardening

Tane Mahuta

Today in Tane Mahuta, me and some of the group were doing the Gardening stuff and the rest of the group were focusing in the greenhouse side. Me and my friends got change into our P.E gear and walked to the garden. We arrived there a bit late as usual. We decided to help with the Gardening stuff rather than helping in the Greenhouse. They were picking up some weeds to be able to have more area to plant some Flower seeds. Then it was Morning Tea time. It felt like we only worked for a small amount of time.

After Morning Tea, we placed our bags inside the classroom then went to the garden right away. There were no Teachers at the garden so we had to wait because the gate that leading to the garden was locked. Finally, the teacher arrived. We went right back to the work that we left. The teacher told us to plant more vegetables in another area. We didn't get to do it the last time we planted so we had to do this week. The names of the vegetables that we planted were, Broccoli, Celery, and Lettuce.

After we did that, we went back to the pulling the weeds. We only worked on a small part of the land to be able to finish it and plant on it. Once we got all the weeds out and the ground was clear, we sprinkled some flower seeds on top.

Anyways, that's all for this week. Thank you for reading!!!

This is what the Experiment looks like.

Conclusion

In conclusion, my findings on this experiments state that the colour Black attracts more heat which is in my Hypothesis. The White was really the one that attracts less heat than the other colours.
I think that the Solar Panels’ colour are Black because again, it attracts more heat than the other colours. Also, in some Countries, they don’t want to paint their houses black because they are afraid that their house will be extremely hot.

Ella West

Ella West

Today on Period one, we walked to the Auditorium to listen to Ella Gates who is an author. She talked to us about her two books that are called " Night Vision and Rain Fall ". These are two completely different stories but both of them has a crime in it. At the end of the session, she also gave us some time to be able to ask her some question and know a bit more about her.

Anyways, the Night Vision Novel was about a child that is allergic to the Sun or the Sunlight. The child was lost in the forest at night when she saw something that she shouldn't have. She witnessed a murder. The hid behind something so the the murderer wouldn't see her. The murder was caused by putting a body inside a car. I can't remember if it was a dead body or if it's still alive. Then the murder set the car on fire. The author said that she chose that type of way of someone getting killed in her story because she thought that the setting was in a forest, it will be loud and if the child was wearing a night vision glasses, it would be too bright for her to see. She didn't really explain as much things about the Rain Fall Novel, but by looking at the cover, it's about a boy that was lost and maybe murdered.

I really enjoy knowing a lot of things about her. I found out a lot of things about her like her living in Dunedin. She has a small Sheep Farm and the Government earns more money from her book.
