Alaskan Tsunami

Hi guys, for this blog post, I'm going to be showing you guys the graph that I made that is about the Alaskan Tsunami compared to some famous landmarks.

In case you can’t see the numbers, here are the measurements:

The Alaskan Tsunami - 550 m
Empire State Building - 450 m
Sky Tower - 328 m
Eiffel Tower - 324 m
Pyramid of Giza - 139 m

The thing that I was so surprised about was the gap between the Eiffel Tower and The Pyramid of Giza, but I’m pretty sure that if you see the pyramid up close in real life, it would be way taller than we think.

Science - Chromatography

Hey there, for today I'm going to be separating the colour blue and some black and see what colours are in it.

Hypothesis: I think that the colour blue isn't going to have that much colour. I think that the black is going to have a lot of colours combined together because black is a very strong colour.

Aim:

To separate the different pigments from ink using chromatography

Method:

1- Draw a line across the filter paper in pencil, 5cm from the bottom.
2- Draw a coloured dot in the centre of the line.
3- Measure out 10mL of water and place in the test tube.
4- Place the filter paper in the test tube and fold over the side. MAKE SURE THE PENCIL LINE IS NOT IN THE WATER.
5- Wait for 5minutes and observe the results
Observation: At first, I didn't see anything happening in the paper. I looked away for a minute then the colours started to separate from each other. The way the colours separated from each other looked really cool. The pigments that was combined together to make the colour Black were some Orange some Blue and a lot of other pigments. I couldn’t remember the other pigments that was in it but it was quite a lot. I also forgot to take a picture of the result that I got bit next time I’ll try to remember it 😊.

Ginger Gems

Ginger Gems

Ingredients:
100 g of Butter
50 g of Butter
1/2 cup of Sugar
2 Tsp of  Ground Ginger
1/2 tsp of Ground cinnamon
2 Tbsp of Golden Syrup
1 Egg
2 cups Standard flour
1/2 tsp of Baking powder
1 tsp of Baking soda
1/2 cup of Milk

The Butter are separated for a reason.
Here is a picture of how it looks when everything is sorted:

To do:

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees fan bake. Make sure to put the Muffin tin in the oven as well.

Cream the 100 g of butter with sugar, ground ginger and the cinnamon and mix it in together with a wooden spoon.
Beat the egg together with the golden syrup. While you're doing that, start sifting the flour and the baking onto a plate. Change the wooden spoon into a silicon scraper. Add some of the milk mixture as well as the flour little by little. Also start mixing it from the middle then to the side, start turning the bowl as you mix.

After that, take the muffin tins out of the Oven. Get a table spoon and a tea spoon, get the 50 g of butter that is cut up into 12 small cubes and put them in each and every one of the muffin tins.

After all of that, put it back in the oven and let it cook for 15 minutes. Once the 15 minutes is done, get a skewer or a tooth pick and insert it in the middle of the muffin to see if it’s cooked or not. When you think it’s done, just let it cool down for about 2 minutes. Once it’s done cooling down, put it on a rack and let it cool down again for about a minute or so. After that, it’s all ready for you to take home.     If you want you can half one of it and try it to see if taste good. The one that we made tasted really good. The texture also has a really good combination with the taste.

Separating a Mixture using Evaporation

Aim: to separate the solute from the solvent / making crystals

Hypothesis: I actually have no idea on what's actually going to happen

Equipment:
Copper sulfate solution, 250 ml Beaker, Heat proof mat, Evaporating basin, Element.

Method:
1. Set up Element
2. Add 100 ml of hot water into the beaker and place on the element
3. Add copper sulfate to the evaporating basin until it is quarter full
4. Carefully, place the Evaporating basin on top of the beaker
5. Turn on the Element
6. Heat the solute until most of the solvent has been evaporated and crystals of the solute is forming
7. Turn the element off, careful not to touch as will be hot for a long time

Observation:
It is starting to steam and boiling and the copper sulfate on top of the beaker is starting to lessen up.
After a few minutes, the copper sulfate started to harden up and is also starting to look like a crystal but in one big whole.

This is what the Crystal ended up looking:

Pizza Swirls

Pizza Swirls

Hi guys, this blog post is going to be about the Pizza swirls that we made last week.

Ingredients:
50 g of Butter
2 cups of Flour
1 table spoon of Baking powder
1/2 tea spoon of salt
1/2 - 1 cup Milk
1 cup of Grated cheese
Red and Green Capsicum ( optional )
Measuring Spoons
Big glass bowl
Sift
Baking pan
Enough baking paper that can fit your baking pan
2 small bowls
2 measuring cups
White, Green and Brown Cutting board

Here is a picture that shows all the ingredients needed:

To do:

  1. Get 50 g of butter and put it on a small plate
  2. Get one of the measuring cup ans measure 2 cups of flour then put it in a bowl
  3. Get the measuring spoon and measure 1/2 a teaspoon of salt and put it in one of the small bowls
  4. With the same measuring spoon, measure 1 table spoon of baking soda
  5. With the measuring cup, measure 1 cup of milk
  6. Then after all that, get the grated cheese and you are probably all set to make the Pizza swirls

The first thing that you have to do is to cut the butter into small little cubes before it might start to melt and will make your job a lot harder.

The second thing that you have to do is to start sifting the flour, salt and baking soda together.

After that, you will then need to put the mix the butter into the dry mixture and only mix it with your finger tips. Make sure to not leave and big lumps of butter.

The next thing that you have to do is to start mixing the mixture together while slowly adding some milk in. Make sure that you only mix it in a circle motion. You don't also have to add all the milk that you guys got. The last thing that you have to remember is to not overwork it because if you did, it will get too soft and be hard to work with.

After you do that, you have to grate some cheese but if you want, you could just buy some that are grated already.

This is what it looks like ones everything is all set:

After that, put a little bit of flour on the table, then start using a rolling pin to flatten the dough out. 40 x 30.

After that, you cut the Capsicums into small little cubes and remember to separate the seeds from it.

Start adding the ingredients onto the dough. Put the Meat, the Capsicums, then the Cheese. Make rue to leave some space at the sides so that it would be easier to roll.

Start to roll it. Make sure that it's tight enough to hold it's shape. Then, you have to half and for each half, cut them into 6 equally.
After you do that, you will then start putting them on the pan a bit tightly.

Once you've put all of them in the pan, slightly push them down and it should look like this.

After 20 - 25 minutes of cooking, this is what it turned out to look like. The taste was unbelievable. The flavour that seemed to stand out the most was the Meat as well as the Capsicum which was a pretty good combination of taste for me.

Stress - Health

Stress:

What causes stress?

When you're too pressured on doing things that you have to finish early. Things like Relationships, Money, Work and even your Family could give you way too much pressure that might even lead you to work too hard and not be able to care for yourself. It also makes you over think and over thinking would not help you at all.

What can stress physically do to your body?

For me, I think that stress could make you fat. No kidding! Why? Well for me, that happens when you're too busy doing things that makes you stressed, you would sometimes think that food is the best way you could relax and clear your mind. Other things that stress could cause your body is that it could make you feel very sick. It could make you feel sore or give you a very bad headache.

How can stress affect the four areas of our well being?

Your stress levels and your coping skills can also influence your physical health. Higher levels of stress can increase the risk of illness and disease. ... Chronic stress also has a negative impact on your physical health. Some of the connections between stress and illness are determined by the ways you cope with stress.

Real friends vs Fake friends

This blog post is going to be about my understanding of what a Real friend and a Fake friend is.

Here is the explanation of my understanding:

Real Friends

Fake friends only comes to you when they need something either from you or from someone you know. They will only use you just for fun and once they're done, they won’t even bother talking to you like how you guys used to. They might also make you do stuff for them that might make you embarrass.
Real Friends

Real friends will always care for you and the things that you do because they love you and they don’t want anything bad to happen to you. They will also be proud with what you achieve in life, and also
