Slave Trade Triangle & Spirituals - Social Studies
For the past few weeks here in Social Studies, we have been focusing on the Slave Trade Triangle. The Slave Trade Triangle occurred between the years 1532 to 1832, the late 16th to 19th century. What is the slave trade triangle? The slave trade triangle is made of three passages. It all starts in Liverpool Europe, the first passage. They send ships filled with goods such as textiles, metals, firearms and a lot more. The cargo would sail to the west coast of Africa. These goods are going to be offered by chiefs and are going to be swapped with slaves. The slaves that are swapped with the goods are taken by other tribes. They fought other tribes and take people who looks healthy and are capable of doing work, being enslaved in short. The trade of goods and slaves completes the first passage. The second passage is the deliverance of the slaves from West Africa to America. Those slaves are put in a cargo which is then shipped to America. The slaves are kept in the cargo for two to three months and the way that they are treated is very disturbing. They are kept inside the ship with their hands and feet shackled together, they are crowded, and the height of the wall is only 4 feet tall. The slaves are only taken out of the "room" or the place that they are kept in two to three times throughout the whole trip, so to sum everything up, they are treated like animals. The worst part was that except for being treated like "animals", some of them gets sick or killed while being shackled together. When this happens, the other slaves that were next to the people who has died, this would give them trauma. They will be scared but won't be able to do anything about it. Then after the ship arrives to America, that ends the second passage. Once the ship is unloaded, the slaves are sold to work in different states of America. They work day and night and when some try to escape, they are punished with very heavy consequences. Those slaves are the ones who works day and night to make the goods that are sent back to Europe, which is the last/third passage.

Spirituals are sung by slaves while on the ship. It was also sung on on ceremonies and gatherings. This is explained much better on the presentation that I made but here is one example of a Spiritual that was sung by the slaves while on the ship: "Wade in the Water"
They sung this while they were still on the ship. This song's hidden is for the children or other slaves to wade in the water while they make distraction. The most important or key part of the song is that it's telling them to escape withe the water. If they escape by the waters, the dogs won't be able to identify their smell to find them. This one is a perfect example of an Spiritual.
About Harriet Tubman:
Harriet Tubman was a very famous woman, who was also born into slavery but has managed to escape. She became a member of a group called Underground Railroad. She was the one who was responsible for helping the people who were still enslaved. She would sometimes sneak into groups of slaves and use Spiritual as a way of passing messages and escape plans. Except for being a part of this group, she was also a nurse, a women's suffrage supporter, and a union spy.

Name Acronym - ESOL
Hey guys, this is what we did in ESOL this week. We had to make an Acronym for our first name. We had to use the words that actually describes us.
This is the poster that I made with my Name Acronym. The two characteristics that I’m going to be talking about are J which means Joyous and L which means Loving. I chose these to describe the first letters of my name because that is my attitude most of the time.
J for Joyous. I chose the word joyous because I’m always happy. I’m always energetic and I can easily put a smile on people’s faces. I’m joyous when I’m with my friends and family, I enjoy spending time with them. L for Loving. I love my family and friends. I love spending time with them, going to different places with them. I make them feel loved and special every time I’m with them or by checking up on them.

Creative Writing Tasks - English
Hi guys, I've decided to use this blog post for the finished work that I have to publish from English. The works that I'm going to be putting up on this post are related to one of the topics that we have been recently working on in English. It's called Creative Writing. There are 6 different activities that we can choose from and have to complete. I'll be putting them up on here with a little introduction on what it is.
Here are the ones that I have completed:
Language Feature:
This is the first one that I finished. What I had to do here is choose three different words and find their definition, an example, and the effect of you using it. Here is the simple slideshow that I made:
The voices of her “friends” kept getting louder and louder to every step they took. She was staring at them from a distance, wondering what they were laughing at. Once they had come close enough to her, she tried to get their attention. They ignored her as if she wasn’t there. She kept on trying to talk to them, catching up to them, she was desperately trying to. They then turned around to her, the tone of their voice changed, the joyous look on their faces dropped. She started to feel anxious, wondering what she did wrong for them to look at her like that. One of the friends came up to her, pushed her, and told her not to bother them because she was an embarrassment to the group. They left her on the ground with her eyes starting to tear up. She forced herself to stand up and smile. She stood at a corner forcing a smile, not knowing what she would do next. Not long after she stood there, a young man around her age was walking in her direction. The scent of his perfume wrapped around her nose. He stopped right in front of her, took her hands and went somewhere. She didn’t even care because at that moment, she was so hurt. They stopped in front of an ice cream shop, he told her to wait for him. She then nodded, agreeing with him. He went in and bought ice cream for her. The sweetness of the ice cream lifted her mood, it made her happy. She asked the boy if he wanted to stay with her a little longer, to be able to thank him properly. The boy agreeds. They then became really good friends, starts to hangout with each other much more often.
Slam Poetry:
The fourth activity that I did for English is Slam Poetry. There was a whole range of different videos and we had to choose the one that we liked the most. Out of all the videos, I chose 'The Poetry Slam of Matariki 2014: Te Kahu Rollestone Performs.' The reason why I chose this out of all the other videos was because I found very inspirational. The way that the speaker delivered his poetry shows how proud he is of his culture. In the video, he was explaining the things that are happening in our society these days. How everything was different from what it was like before.
This was the site where I watched the video from: LINK

Hypothesis: Chemical Change
Equipment:
- Sample of Zn O (Zinc Oxide)
- Heat Source - Hot plate
- Scales
- Heat proof container - Evaporating dish
- Tongs
- Heat proof mat
- Get sample of ZnO in an evaporating dish
- Weigh the ZnO and container - record weigh
- Heat container and ZnO on hot plate
- Observe any changes - use phone for before and after photos
- Take off heat and put on heat mat
- Let cool - observe - photos
- Re weigh
Here is what it looked like during the experiment:
