Coraline Character Chart - Film Study

 Hi guys, this blog post is going to be about a Character Chart that I made this period. The Character Chart that I made includes Coraline and the 'other mother'.

What am I learning?

I'm learning about different characters in the Film Coraline and saying the problems that they faced and how they reacted to it.

How does my work show my learning?

This work that I did shows my learning because I could identify the problems that they have faced and how they reacted to it. 

What am I wondering?

While doing this work, I wonder that if they reacted differently, would the film end up differently as well? Would it have been a sad ending instead of a happy ending?

We have been learning about the Plot of the movie 'Coraline". The key things that has happened in the film ad I would say the important parts that makes the film understandable. 

How does my work show my learning?

This work shows my learning and understanding of this topic because I have listed down the key things that has happened in the film. 

What am I wondering?

I don't really have any wondering about this topic because it is pretty easy to understand but I have learnt a lot of things. I learned how to identify the different parts of the film and what they are called.

Mythical Creatures - ESOL

 For today's lesson in ESOL, we shared the video that we made last Tuesday here in ESOL as well. But before we started making it, we had to be in groups or just do it individually. I was in a group with Shiela and Alliah. We then had to choose which Mythical Creature we wanted to make the DLO about. The Mythical Creature that we had to talk about was either from our country or from another country. The Mythical Creature that we made the video about was from my country, The Philippines. We chose the "Lady in White", or the "White Lady". 

Why did we choose White Lady? We chose the White Lady because it's one of the common ones. A lot of stories about it has been passed down from Generations. In the video that we made, we couldn't really put in any stories. It was mostly only about what the white lady looks like and a few scary and maybe funny clips. This was also filmed after school at the park near our school, that's why I was still wearing my uniform while filming.

Heart Dissection - Science

 Hi everyone, this blog post is going to be about what we did in Science at Tuesday. At Tuesday, we dissected a pig's heart and here are some questions about the experiment that we did. Before we did this experiment, we have also been learning about the hand. Learning about the parts of the heart and how they function. As we were doing the experiment, our teacher said that there were two things that are not included in the heart. It was the Atrium and the tubes. But luckily, we actually had the Atrium on heart and got to see what it looks like. Here are some questions about the Heart Dissection.

What have we been learning about?

The Heart Dissection that we did pretty much sums up the things that we learnt, because we were also learning about Blood and it relates to the heart. The Circulatory System that we were also learning about relates to the Blood which again, relates to the Heart. Almost Everything that we learnt about connects to this Dissection.

The first thing we learned about that mainly relates to the blood was the circulatory system, if you don't what the circulatory system is. It is an organ system that spreads or permits the blood to circulate in the body. This is to make sure the blood is surely able to transport the nutrients all over the body. If we don't have a circulatory system our blood wouldn't be able to transport the nutrients our body needs. This is because of gravity, our blood would just be at the bottom of our body. 

We had also learned about the parts of the heart, as you probably know on a diagram you usually see red and blue veins. This is because the blue veins are carrying deoxygenated blood and the red veins are carrying oxygenated blood. On the right side of the heart is where the deoxygenated blood needs to go through. so it has less muscle this is just so it can get through to the lungs to get oxygen. Then it will come back to the heart as oxygenated blood, to be put on the left side the being pushed throughout the whole body. This is why the right side only has a little amount of muscle because the lungs are very close to the heart. On the other hand, the left side of the lungs needs more muscle because they need to push the blood throughout the whole body. 

Why are we dissecting a Heart?

To learn and identify the different parts of the heart. To understand how they work and why they are needed. Being able to analyse everything that is in the heart.

What are the parts of the heart? did you see them?

Most of the class did not have an atrium and veins because usually the top of the heart would be cut off along with the atrium and veins. So we were lucky to have an atrium, but not the vein, we were also able to identify. The left and right sides of the heart, by feeling for the side which has more muscle. We also saw the valve, which is a thick layer of tissue that separates the left and right sides of the heart. We noticed that the valve was pretty thick we were told that it was so oxygenated and deoxygenated blood wouldn't mix together. We were also able to see the ventricles which looked pretty stringy. 

Did you enjoy the dissection? why/why not?

I enjoyed doing the dissection because I was able to put my self to the test to see if I could actually name the different parts of the Heart. I was able to touch it and do dome of the cutting that was needed to be done so that we could really see what was inside. It was also fascinating because I was able to see what a heart actually looks like and feels like in real life.

Coraline - Film Study Colour and Lighting

What am I learning?

For this week, we are learning about the different types Lighting and Colours that is used in the Movie 'Coraline'. What makes those specific kinds of Lighting and Colours make us feel and wonder.

How does this work show my learning?

My learning is shown on this work because I know how to identify the different messages that the Lighting and the Colours gives us. I am also able to explain what type it is and why it is used.

What am I wondering as a result of this learning?

While learning about this topic, I wonder how much important it is to use the one specific Lighting or Colour. Let's say that they use a different type, would it also make us feel/think differently?.

Today, I'm going to be talking about the movie Coraline. About the Lighting and Colour that was used throughout the Movie. Let's talk about the first time that we saw the 'real world', the first place that we saw in the 'real world' was the Pink Palace and the surrounding. The Pink Palace is the place where Coraline will be staying in for the whole Film. Let's talk about the Lighting and the Colours that was uses. 

As we can see in this photo, we could see that the Pink Palace wasn't really Pink at all. The surrounding of the house also looked dead and not bright. It makes you feel very uneasy and bored. The only thing that was actually bright and warm was Coraline herself. Even her own parents looked dull and cold the first time we saw them. The Colours that they used when we first saw the House and the surroundings were cold colours. Nothing stood out over anything and almost everything looked the same. The paint that was used to colour the house were rotting and was starting to peel off. The light that was used was very natural. It made the place looked more dead and eerie. The only source of light was coming from the clouds even after she came in the house. The colours in the house was also very cold, just like the colours that you see outside. 

In this photo, this is the first looked that we got of the 'other world'. When we first see the 'other world' for the first time, it made us feel very warm and welcome. The 'other parents' also looked more alive. They are also wearing much colourful clothes than the 'real parents'. When Coraline first saw the 'other mother' with the button eyes, we saw that she looked very confused but somehow interested I would say. Because if she was freaked out and scared, she would rushed back to the 'real world'. When it was dinner time, we could see that Coraline had every single type of food that she wish she could eat in the 'real world'. The Colours that was used in this photo was very warm and bright. It made you feel very welcome and invited. The Lighting that was used was Artificial. It looked very ideal for Coraline. In the 'other world', Coraline wasn't the only one who stands out anymore. 

Fast forward to when Coraline was offered to get the button eyes sewed onto her eyes. She said no to the 'other mother' and that's where everything started to change. From the Colours being Bright and Welcoming to being Eerie and Scary. The Lighting also started to change. It started to look like she was in the ' real world' but scarier and worse. They used a lot of Dark colours that made the place look very scary and sort of disgusting I would say. Not only the surroundings of the 'other world' started changing but also the 'other parents'. We had the first look of the 'other parents'. The 'other mother actually turned out that she was under control of everything.

Now fast forward to when everything got resolved. They were all back to the 'real world' and everything seemed to be more alive. They get to meet the people that lives close to them but without the button eyes. They all look more alive and happier than when we first saw them. The Colours that was used were starting to look more warm and bright. But the brightness of it was natural unlike the one in the 'other world' where it looked much more artificial and unreal.

What makes a Leader? - Year 9 Leadership

Hi everyone, this blog post is going to be about an activity we did in Wananga. We started this activity by listing down some ideas on what we think makes a great leader. We are focusing on this topic because when we move up to year 10, we are going to be doing a lot of leadership task. 

Here are some of the key things that I'm looking for from a great leader:

• Someone who is really Brave when it comes to facing the consequences that awaits them. Someone who is brave enough to take responsibilities about the decisions that they make and someone who is brave enough to step out of their comfort zone to try out new thing for themselves and for their team.
• Someone who is Smart enough to make smart decision for the team so that the team won't have to do anything hard. Someone who could also teach the team how to also make good decisions so that they won't always have to be the one who makes the choice.
• Someone who is Inclusive. making sure that everyone in the team is included on the work that they do and work on. Someone who makes sure that everyone takes part on the things that they do and not only one person doing all the work.
• Someone who is Respectful and Honest. Someone who Respects their teammates and someone who is Honest with the teammates. 
• Someone who Listens to everyone in the group. Takes their opinions and ideas in consideration.
• Someone who is committed on the team and committed on being the leader.
• Someone who is ready to step out of their comfort zone especially when the team needs them and their guidance. 
• Someone who can manage themselves so that they could become the person who the team can rely on.
• Someone who is very Empathetic, someone who knows and thinks about what other people could feel.
• Someone who is Loyal to the team and sticks to them.
• Someone who is Assertive but in a good way. Someone who can stand up on their own feet and speak up for the team.

There are probably more things that a great leader could have but this is what I think could make a really great leader. This is the video that I made last week covering some of these characteristics that I have listed down:

I didn't include it in the video that I made but a very good leader that I know and I admire. This leader is Jacinda Ardern. She was able to lead our country while there is a world pandemic. Leading a country itself could be really hard but when there is a virus that is going around worldwide, it made her job much more harder. She was able to control the citizens of New Zealand and lead them to safety. That alone is very inspiring and that is why I admire her the most.

 Hi guys, this blog post is going ti e about the different themes that are used in the Film "Coraline". These themes are only some of the themes that are used, they are also the ones that are used the most in the film.  

What am I learning?

How does this result show my learning?

My learning shows that I know some of the different themes and I know when they are used. 

What am I wondering?

The only wondering that I had while making this is that how many themes are used in one film. If you use too much or less, will you not be able to understand what the film is about.? Is there a limit on how much theme you can use.?
